BOONE, N.C. -- While snow fell at a rapid rate in Watauga County, there was no shortage of smiles seen around downtown.

“It’s like the old saying goes for Boone, 'if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it’ll change for you,'" said Dillon, a local resident.

While he has a point, the weather 15 days ago was tremendously different. On that day, Boone recorded temperature in the 60s.

On Monday, some places reportedly saw more than six inches of snow.

Appalachian State students had no reasons to complain with an off-day but Watauga County school administrators will have to figure out what’s next for their students after they missed another “inclement weather day.”

A teacher told NBC Charlotte they were set to make up a missed day of school this past Saturday but that too got snowed out.

Thousands in Caldwell County reported power outages but Monday’s snowstorm caused no widespread outages in Watauga County.
