Popular seafood & steak restaurant in uptown scores a B

You'd normally expect great food and great service when you dine at this uptown Charlotte restaurant, not a B-grade from the health department.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A high-end seafood restaurant in uptown Charlotte earned a low grade from the health department.

NBC Charlotte’s consumer reporter and anchor Bill McGinty combs through the inspection reports each week looking for the information you most certainly would want to know before you sit down to order and eat.

When you come to eat at McCormick and Schmick’s on South Tryon Street in uptown Charlotte, you expect great food and great service, not a B-grade from the health department.

Inside, their roasted red pepper mashed potatoes and rice were not hot enough. Both had to be tossed out. Their coleslaw, bruschetta and grilled chicken were all too warm and crab meat, caramelized onions and heavy cream were not dated right. One was dated in early December. All of those items were voluntarily thrown out by restaurant staff.

Their grade this go-round? An 87 for a B.

Next up, Marco’s Pizza on Providence Road West in south Charlotte. Some of their sausages, cut meatballs and feta were considered too old and were tossed out. Some of the spinach had no date on it so it was also tossed.

On top of that, a certified food protection manager was not on-site during inspections. Someone with those credentials always needs to be there.

Their grade? A 90, or a low A.

Last up this week, The Liberty at the Blakeney Village. The health inspector saw an employee check the food temperature but putting the back of his bare hand on the food. That food? Tossed out.

Some eggs, lobster meat, grilled onions, green beans and butter were too warm. There was also soft cheese in the cooler without a date labeled on it. It too was tossed out.

Their grade at The Liberty? A 91.5, a low A.
