CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is investigating a strong armed robbery in broad daylight at South Park Mall.

It happened just after 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

According to CMPD, a 56-year-old woman was assaulted and then robbed in the Nordstrom parking lot.

The suspect got away with $27,000 worth of valuables, everything from a 3.5 karat diamond ring, iPhone, credit cards, car keys and even the woman’s driver’s license. Police said the suspect drove off towards Barclay Downs Drive.

Just one week ago, police were called to the same mall after shots were fired. No one was hurt in that instance.

But it is another serious incident putting regular shoppers on edge.

“I think it’s more just being aware of your surroundings, not being on your cell phone and looking around. I usually try not to go here at night. Especially not parking garages they are not a safe place,” Jill Tucker said.

“I know that I will be more cautious getting in and out of my car and just being focused on what I’m doing,” Xiomara Smith added.

That woman suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. At this time there is no description of the suspect.
