CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Friends of “Super Colby” Young ran a 5K in his honor Saturday morning at McAlpine Park.
Young died late 2016 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 8th grade.
Two cross-country runners at his school (Charlotte Christian) were so inspired by the teen’s battle with cancer, they decided to create the race in his honor.
Young was the second of six children in his family.
“It’s really a testament to our school and the people that go there. Everyone around Colby through his journey and his fight really rallied around us, and it’s just so awesome to see people want to continue the legacy and help the cause for pediatric cancer," said Kai Young, 'Super" Colby's big sister.
The ‘Super Colby’ 5K raised money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Fund to help other children like Colby.
