CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The City of Charlotte announced Tuesday that the 2016 Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade an extraordinary event.

Charlotte officials define an extraordinary event as any large-scale event of national or international significance which might attract a significant number of people to a certain area of the city.

In the past, the city has declared Carolina Panthers games, the ACC football championship game, and other large sporting events as extraordinary events.

The designation allows city officials to modify the permitting process for activities such as parades and specifies particular items are prohibited from being brought into certain boundaries of the event(s).
