CONCORD, N.C. – Thousands of people woke up without power in Concord Tuesday morning.

According to the Concord’s Public Affairs and Projects Manager Peter Franzese, utility crews are responding to a widespread outage that is affected as many as 7,000 people in the western half of town.

The customers without power are customers of the city’s electricity service and are not Duke Energy customers. Concord Police confirmed that the outages stretched along U.S. Highway 29 between Weddington Road and Bruton Smith Boulevard at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The first outages were reported around 5:30 a.m.

The cause of the outage has not yet been determined by officials. Customers without power are encouraged to call 704-920-5555 to report an outage.
