CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Highway Patrol is investigating after three people were taken to the hospital following an overnight crash on I-85 south in west Charlotte.
According to NCDOT, the two left-hand lanes of I-85 south between exits 36 and 37 were closed after a tractor-trailer overturned early Tuesday morning.
State troopers charged 49-year-old Winnie Shurlow with DWI, careless & reckless driving, and having an open container in connection with the crash.
Highway Patrol on the scene said that Shurlow was traveling south on I-85 when she hit the tractor-trailer and her vehicle bounced into another passenger car. Officials said the truck driver lost control trying to avoid Shurlow, hit the concrete barrier and overturned. Troopers said the truck driver and two men inside an SUV were taken to the hospital.
