CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. -- A man was charged Tuesday in a deadly shooting out of Cleveland County.
The investigation began around 10:45 a.m. at 441 Gantts Grove Church Road in Mooresboro. That's where authorities found the body of 48-year-old Calvin Walton in a carport.
Investigators were also notified of a man with a gunshot wound at 525 Trinity Church Road. Officials charged that man, 41-year-old Terry Petty, with Walton's murder as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Petty was treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Carolinas Medical Center-Cleveland. He was then taken to the Cleveland County Detention Center where he's being held on no bond.
