CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Looking for a new place to take a walk? The grand opening of the Flat Branch Nature Preserve was held Wednesday near Ballantyne.
Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Ella B. Scarborough, Park and Recreation Deputy Director Michael Kirschman and Nature Preserves Division Director Chris Matthews spoke at the ceremony.
The recreation area at 11833 Tom Short Road was built with a small parking lot, a shelter with bathrooms and a 0.45 mile natural surface trail with a boardwalk.
With the addition of the Flat Branch Nature Preserve, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation now manages more than 7,600 acres of nature preserves.
