Want to live a long and healthy life? The oldest woman in the world, who turns 117 in just a few days says that eating eggs is one of the main reasons why.

Emma Morano says that she first began eating eggs in her teens when a doctor prescribed them to treat anemia.

TODAY.com reports that she was first prescribed three a day and stuck with it for more than 90 years. She has since backed that down and added a little treat.

"I eat two eggs a day and that's it. And cookies," she told the AFP news agency earlier in 2016. "But I do not eat much because I have no teeth."

That's a lot of eggs - and a lot of years. In fact, the math adds up to more than 100,000 eggs since she started the diet.

NBC News Health and Nutrition Editor Madelyn Fernstrom said that eggs are a nutritional powerhouse. In fact, they contain about 75 calories, 7 grams of high quality protein, 5 grams of fat and 1.6 grams of saturated fat.

It's worked for Emma, who will turn 117 on November 29 according to the Guinness Book of World Records who also says that she's the last remaining person to have been alive in the 1800s.
