Part of Billy Graham Parkway closed for funeral

Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation will shut down the road in both directions from South Tryon Street to Tyvola Road at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1.

CHARLOTTE, N.C -- Part of Billy Graham Parkway is closed Friday, March 2, for the funeral of Reverend Billy Graham.

Officials with the North Carolina Department of Transportation shut down the road in both directions from South Tryon Street to Tyvola Road at 9:00 p.m. Thursday. Officials previously announced that the road would close at midnight on Friday. The road will remain closed until the funeral activities conclude.

If you are traveling east on Billy Graham Parkway, you will be detoured onto Tyvola Road, turn left on South Tryon Street and get on Woodlawn Road.

If you are driving west on the Billy Graham Parkway, you will be detoured to South Tryon Street, turn right on Tyvola Road and get back on the parkway.

If you're heading to the airport, use these directions:

  • From I-77 south of Charlotte, take the I-485 Inner Loop (Exit 1) to Wilkinson Boulevard (Exit 9), continuing east to Josh Birmingham Parkway; or
  • From I-85, take Little Rock Road (Exit 32), continuing south to Josh Birmingham Parkway.

The city of Charlotte has created a website to post information about activities leading up to Rev. Billy Graham's funeral including the motorcade from Asheville, arrival ceremony and private family viewing in Charlotte on Saturday.
