Charlotte mentioned in Justice Department indictment

Mecklenburg County Elections Director Michael Dickerson says he expects the Russians will continue to try to influence upcoming elections.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –A an anti-Trump rally held in Marshall Park in 2016 is mentioned in the indictment naming 13 Russians who have been charged with trying to influence the 2016 Presidential election.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein unveiled the indictment in Washington Friday afternoon.

The indictment says that before and after the election of Donald Trump the Russians and their operatives coordinated and organized several rallies both for and against Trump.

The indictment says the Russians did it by, “…buying Facebook advertisements, paying US persons to participate in, or perform certain tasks at the rallies’ and communicating with real US persons and grassroots organizations.”

“The indictment alleges that the Russian conspirators wanted to promote discord in the United States and undermine public confidence in democracy,” Rosenstein said.

Mecklenburg County Elections Director Michael Dickerson says he expects the Russians will continue to try to influence upcoming elections.

Said Dickerson, “Our jobs our livelihood, our reputation is staked on the fact that we stay ahead of everything.”

The indictment does not name any persons involved in organizing that rally in Charlotte.
