CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Former Charlotte mayor Patrick Cannon stepped back into the public eye Saturday night to give advice on how to run for public office.

Cannon recently wrapped up serving time in federal prison for corruption. He is now hosting a radio show.

"I'm focused on being the best dad I can be, the best husband I can be, the best son I can be, that's what is really important to me right now," Cannon told NBC Charlotte. "Anything else that may come, if it's God's will, we will look at those things."

The Black Political Caucus hosted Saturday's forum where Cannon provided political advice. The group is also hosting the Democratic mayoral debate this upcoming Thursday.
