CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- People still packing the roads and the airport at this hour, trying to make it home from the thanksgiving holiday.

Experts say this is the second busiest travel day of the year.

It hasn’t been too bad today, the consensus I got from people was that today was much a much smoother travel day than Wednesday. It seems like people came and went in waves all day today which helped with congestion… but it was certainly a busy day nonetheless.

From Boston, to Chicago, or New York City, thousands of Carolinians hit the roads and the skies for the weekend. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it’s time to come home.

"Going home was hectic," said Gabby Mori, traveler. "The airports were packed and traffic was insane getting home and to the airport…but coming back has been easy, super fast"

AAA estimated that 2 million people in North and South Carolina traveled for the holiday -- almost 90 percent travelling by car.

"We got here and theres a lot of traffic out here in Charlotte," said James Byron, traveler.

AAA reports 43.5 million Americans traveled for the holiday. And of course, this is all just a warm up compared to the number one busiest travel day of the year -- Christmas -- which is just around the corner.
