According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the first accident happened near Mile Marker 54. A pickup truck hauling a trailer lost its front tire and crashed into a guardrail.
About 75 yards behind the first accident, a pickup truck hauling an empty horse transport trailer collided with a jeep, resulting in a four-car accident, state troopers say.
