Broken gas line shuts down Queens Road in Myers Park

A busy section of Queens Road in Myers Park is shut down after a gas line was broken while crews worked to repair a damaged utility pole overnight.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A busy section of Queens Road in Myers Park is shut down after a gas line was broken while crews worked to repair a damaged utility pole overnight.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, a vehicle hit a power pole on Queens Road between Hermitage Road and Henley Place around 8 p.m. While crews worked to repair the damaged pole, they struck a gas line, causing a gas leak.

As a result, authorities were forced to shut down the road and stop repairs on the pole until the gas line is repaired. Approximately 200 Duke Energy customers in the area were without power until around 10 a.m.

Alternate routes to get around the mess include East 3rd Street and East Morehead Street, but expect things to be slow as major thoroughfares take on extra traffic.
