Cyclist seriously injured in northeast Charlotte crash

A busy stretch of North Tryon Street in the University City area is shut down after a cyclist was hit by a vehicle Monday morning.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A busy stretch of North Tryon Street in the University City area was shut down after a cyclist was hit by a vehicle Monday morning.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers responded to a 911 call for a crash involving a cyclist at the intersection of North Tryon Street and WT Harris Boulevard just after 5 a.m.

Police said a man was riding a bicycle on North Tryon when he was hit by a motorist and went into the intersection. The cyclist was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with life-threatening injuries.

All three lanes of inbound North Tryon Street and all lanes of westbound WT Harris were closed while police investigated the crash and cleared the scene. The intersection was reopened just before 6:30 a.m.
