CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- All lanes of I-77 north bound were shut down around 5:50 a.m. Tuesday after a fatal crash.
According to Medic, a pedestrian was hit early Tuesday on I-77 N at the Clanton Road exit causing all lanes to be shut down between Woodlawn Road and Clanton Road.
Rock Hill to I-485 should only take you 12 minutes. Right now, it's going to take you 81! Check back for alt routes pic.twitter.com/ARKKs7VY5b— WCNC Traffic (@WCNCTraffic) May 16, 2017
Back ups are extending at least five to six miles down the interstate.
Authorities recommend drivers find an alternative route. NBC Charlotte's Traffic Reporter Rachel Rollar suggests drivers use Tryon or South Blvd. However, both are seeing delays as well due to heavy traffic.
Northbound lanes of I-77 remained closed until around 10:30 a.m.
