Man struck, killed by train in NW Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after they said a person was hit and killed by a train Monday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a man was hit and killed by a train in northwest Charlotte Monday morning.

CMPD responded to a call near South Hoskins Road and Rozzelles Ferry Road. Upon arrival, officers located a CSX train stopped and 56-year-old Richard Brown lying on the ground beside it.

Prior to the accident, CMPD said video from the train showed the locomotive sounding the horn and bell for a long period of time as the engineer approached the railroad crossing.

Following the early stages of investigation, CMPD said alcohol impairment of Brown appeared to be a contributing factor. He was pronounced dead a little after 9:30 a.m.

The deadly crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
