ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – A 5-year-old girl was critically injured in a car accident in Rowan County Thursday morning, officials said.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Felisha Blackwelder of Salisbury was traveling north on Barger Road, just east of Salisbury, around 10:45 a.m. when she ran off the road and lost control of her vehicle. Troopers say the vehicle rolled over twice and struck a tree.

Officials say that Blackwelder’s 5-year-old daughter was taken to Rowan Hospital to be stabilized before she was rushed to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Troopers say that Blackwelder, who is at least seven months pregnant, and the 5-year-old had to be extricated from the vehicle.
