Woman dies after being struck in northeast Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed in northeast Charlotte Tuesday night.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed in northeast Charlotte Tuesday night.

CMPD officers were called to the 1300 block of W. Sugar Creek Road just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived they said they found a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban had struck a pedestrian in the roadway. Medic was called and transported the pedestrian to Carolinas Medical Center Main with serious injuries. 26-year-old Francisca Mia Rosada was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m.

CMPD said their initial investigation showed 40-year-old Hal Jerome Stephens was driving his suburban south in the right lane of W. Sugar Creek Road towards Interstate 85. Rosada was allegedly standing in the right lane and was struck.

"The pedestrian was standing mid-block and not near any crosswalk," CMPD said.

Speed is not a contributing factor, CMPD said. They are working to determine whether Rosada was impaired.

This crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Reibold at 704-432-2169.
