CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information after a shooting injured two children inside a west Charlotte apartment Thursday morning.

CMPD says the incident happened just before 2:00 a.m. at the Little Rock Apartments in the 5700 block of Leake Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found two boys, ages nine and 11, with gunshot wounds. A brother said the nine-year-old was shot in the arm, and the 11-year-old was shot in the arm and hip.

The victims were rushed to Carolinas Medical Center where they were being treated for non-life threatening injuries. It's possible they may not be home for Christmas.

Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information.

Investigators believe the apartment was shot into from the outside. There were six people in the home at the time. Police canvassed the area and talked to witnesses, but no arrests were made.

A neighbor told NBC Charlotte it's not unusual to hear gunshots in the neighborhood, but this time it was close to his window. He said many children live in the area, and parents are terrified.

"I think somebody knew what they were doing," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified, but did say he's lived at the complex for several years. "I don't talk to nobody over here."

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or send in a tip online.
