CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Is it possible that Cam Newton was a one-year wonder?

That’s what Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd and Jason Whitlock think after the Panthers’ disappointing 20-17 loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The two personalities broke down Cam’s struggles throughout his career, nothing that outside of 2015’s 15-1 season, Newton is a below .500 quarterback with a career record of 33-36-1 as a starter. In 2015, Newton’s passer rating was 99.4, up nearly 15 points from his 85.0 mark for the rest of his career.

“I’m off Cam Newton,” Whitlock said on Monday’s episode of ‘Speak For Yourself.’ “His emotion, and his team, [they’re] 17-0, and he’s dabbing, blah blah blah. Then all of a sudden all hell breaks loose, they give up a cheap field goal at the end of the first half, and I’m like, ‘that’s gonna hurt, that’s going to leave a mark.’ They get in the second half and can’t score a point and I’m like, ‘we’re on the Cam roller coaster.’

“Looks like Tarzan in the first half, second half looks like Jane,” Whitlock said.”

Cowherd joined in the criticism of Newton, saying his inability to sustain success is a knock on his reputation.

“Doesn’t matter if it’s a business, a team or a quarterback, consistency is everything to me,” Cowherd said. “So much of this league now is work ethic and preparation.

“I look at Cam Newton and I don’t get consistency. I don’t get consistency of throws, or consistency of emotion. I’m out.”
