Millions called in 'sick' the Monday after the Super Bowl

Flu season is running rampant but the Monday following the Super Bowl has been named "National Sick Day" with 14 million people reportedly calling out sick.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Flu season is running rampant but the Monday following the Super Bowl has been named "National Sick Day" with 14 million people reportedly calling out sick.

A recent survey commissioned by Mucinex and The Workforce Institute at Kronos Incorporated revealed that about one in five employed Americans claimed they have previously missed work on the Monday after the big game.

It sounds mysterious, one could even call it an "epidemic," but doctors have revealed that it's not caused by a strand of the flu or a viral infection. Instead, it's induced by the liquid libation simultaneously referred as the devil or a Godsend, depending on who you ask.

We're talking about alcohol.

According to men's health magazine, Americans consume 325 million gallons of beer on Super Bowl Sunday, which amounts to a massive headache with side effects that aren't treated by your primary-care physician.

If you are suffering from the alcohol-induced epidemic, there is good news; football season is over and your hangover is also on it's way out.

Unless you're a New England Patriots fan. You probably have a long offseason ahead of you.
