BOONE, N.C. -- You don’t need a Christmas song to tell your baby it’s cold outside in the mountains.

After getting six inches of snow last weekend, Appalachian Ski Mountain President Brad Moretz said business is booming.

“We’ve got great skiing now, it’s like January conditions,” said Moretz. “I think everybody is excited we’re at peak form this early in the season.”

Flurries continued to fly Tuesday and with temperature in the teens, a couple of teenagers offered advice for anyone making the trip.

“Pack extra layers,” said one teenager.

“It’s pretty cold but it’s awesome,” added another.

Wind gusts are expected to reach 50 mph but road conditions have been just fine on the mountain.

“We’ve had no one having problems getting to the ski area at all,” said Moretz. “The roads don’t even need scraping now!”

Even with a great start to the season, Moretz says they’ll continue making snow for the skiers until they have six feet accumulated on the ground.
