Charlotte area neighbors open homes, offer supplies in the wake of Hurricane Florence

A Fort Mill woman is offering a room through the Facebook group, "Hurricane Florence Lodging for Evacuees" which has about 5,000 members.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Where you find people in need, you find even more helping hands.

People in Charlotte are stepping up to do whatever they can to help their neighbors ahead of Hurricane Florence.

Blue Blaze Brewing is just one brewery that has filled tanks full of filtered water and is prepping kegs to fill with water if needed.

“As a brewery we really, really try to focus on our community,” said owner Craig Nunn.

They have a couple thousand gallons of water ready to offer up.

On the water at Kings Point Marina, TowBoat US is checking each boat to make sure it’s securely tied up without any loose parts.

"We take care of any of our marinas, our boats, and just anybody who needs us,” said DJ Gerwin, Office manager of TowBoat US.

Evacuees are also finding more comfortable options as people all across the region are offering any spare room they have those in need.

"I would hope that if we ever had to evacuate our home, there would be someone to take us in if necessary," said Samantha Ainslie.

The Fort Mill woman is offering a room through the Facebook group, "Hurricane Florence Lodging for Evacuees" which has about 5,000 members.

"It’s amazing to see how many people out there are willing to open their homes to complete strangers in trouble," said Ainslie.

Airbnb also activated its free housing program which allows evacuees to find free lodging.
