10:45 p.m. - Charlotte Douglas airport is instructing travelers to to check with their airlines on the statuses of their flights before arriving at the airport.

9:50 p.m. - CMPD reports there have been 201 accidents in Charlotte between 12 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. CMPD said 170 crashes is the city's average in a 24-hour period.

8 p.m. - CATS announce CityLYNX Gold Line will not begin during normal service hours Thursday morning. Bus and LYNX Blue Line are operating under normal schedules Thursday.

7:30 p.m. - NCDOT says there is heavy congestion on U.S. 74 (Independence Boulevard) near John Belk Freeway. The road is back open as of 8 p.m.

6 p.m. - Gastonia Police tells NBC Charlotte officers responded to about 20 crashes by Tuesday morning. Catawba County officials tell NBC Charlotte that the county's emergency crews responded to dozens of calls about car crashes.

5:05 p.m. - Governor Roy Cooper held a press conference on the winter storm that is gripping North Carolina.

4:05 p.m. - CMPD says officers investigated over 180 wrecks in Charlotte. Police investigated 145 crashes between 6 a.m. and 12:59 p.m. Wednesday.

3:55 p.m. - Concord Police say a vehicle crash caused a power outage in the area of Eva Drive and Red Maple Drive.

3 p.m. - Hickory Public Schools, Rowan-Salisbury Schools and Union County Public Schools announced they will be closed Thursday for students and staff. Alexander County Schools announced it will be closed for its students Thursday. Click here for full list of closings and delays.

3 p.m. - NASCAR Hall of Fame closes. The exhibit will reopen at noon Thursday.

2 p.m. - CATS announces that all express bus routes will begin service early by adding an extra trip at 2 p.m., with the exception of 77X, which is already operating under a midday service.

1:45 p.m. - SouthPark is closing at 3 p.m. due to inclement weather, according to mall officials.

1:00 p.m. - There has officially been three inches of snowfall at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

12:22 p.m. - NCDOT announces that I-85 south in Rowan County is back open after multiple collisions forced a detour earlier in the day Wednesday. DOT officials say winter weather is impacting travel on all highways from the Tennessee border to the northern Piedmont, including Charlotte, Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem.

10:10 a.m. - NC Department of Public Safety officials announce that Highway Patrol crews have responded to more than 500 collisions statewide and have received more than 700 calls for service. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say officers have responded to 57 crashes in the Queen City, with the majority of those occurring during the morning rush.

10 a.m. - Gov. Roy Cooper gives an update on the winter storm encouraging people to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Nearly all of North Carolina is under a Winter Storm Warning. "This is going to be a significant snow event for much of our state."

9:27 a.m. - Check your flight status before you head to the Charlotte airport. Flights are arriving and departing, but there are some delays. Planes are getting de-iced

9:01 a.m. - Concord Mills Mall announces that it will open at 12 noon Wednesday due to snowy conditions.

8:35 a.m. - Snow is still melting on asphalt, but First Warn Meteorologist Sarah Fortner expects road conditions to worsen as temperatures continue to drop throughout the day.

8:15 a.m. - Multiple airlines report lengthy delays and Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Crews are on the tarmac deicing planes in an effort to keep travel going.

8:06 a.m. - Charlotte Premium Outlets is closed today due to inclement weather. Full list of closings here

8 a.m. - Snow was falling outside the NBC Charlotte studio

7:15 a.m. - Updated snowfall potential for the area

7 a.m. - The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services is canceling service for today. Yard waste collection is suspended for the rest of the week in an effort to get all garbage and recyclables collected. Citizens should put their garbage and recyclable carts at the curb on their normal collection day and leave it until collected.

6:50 a.m. - More area schools are switching from a delay to CLOSED. Complete list here

6:45 a.m. – Snow is falling in the NBC Charlotte viewing area and it's starting to accumulate in some areas

6:10 a.m. – Winter Storm warning for Mecklenburg and surrounding counties is extended until 6 p.m.
