Panovich: Heavy rain will continue through Tuesday

Parts of North Carolina could see up to six inches of rainfall over the next three days.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- After a sunny and dry weekend, things are going to be much wetter across the Carolinas.

Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich said a storm system brought heavy rain to the region, with some parts of North Carolina expecting up to six inches over the next three days.

Panovich said three to six inches of rain could fall over the next three days in the North Carolina mountains and foothills. He said the Charlotte area may see up to three inches of rainfall.

A flood watch was issued for Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell and Watauga counties until Tuesday morning.

The Charlotte area is expected to be rain-soaked all Monday and temperatures will only be in the upper 50s or low 60s.

On top of the cloudy, wet and chilly conditions, it will also be windy with gusts projected to go as high as 25 mph on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The cloudy and cooler-than-average conditions will persist into Tuesday, as the Charlotte area is expected to see lows of about 56 degrees and highs near 67 degrees, according to NWS.

By Wednesday, the clouds are expected to slowly clear out and we'll be back to spring-like temperatures. Highs are expected to be near 73 degrees in the Queen City, according to NWS.
