It’s Speed Week, so here in Charlotte racing is all most can think about. But this weekend is also Memorial Day Weekend. Here’s a fun way to get out the house with your family that is so simple that it’s Beyond the Usual.
Bike riding. It’s a great day out with the family or even an adventurous date. Last year the Charlotte B-Cycle program was introduced to the city. 16 other cities in the country use the program. Here in Charlotte there are 20 B-stations from Johnson C Smith University through Uptown, the South End and Freedom Park. There are stations near Time Warner Cable Arena, 7ht Street Public Market, the Government Center, the Green and the Convention Center, even Target in Mid-town.
The B-Cycles are simple to use. Tap the screen, follow the directions on the screen, pay with your card, then select a bike. They’re not meant for you to check out as your personal bike for the day. If you do it that way it can get quite expensive…up to 75 dollars a day. The program is set up to share the bikes with the entire community.
Make stops all around town for a great day out, just follow these rules.
· There are no fees for the first 30 minutes of each ride after removing from docking station
· It’s $4 for each additional half-hour
· But if you keep docking the bike every 30 minutes, then you are within the limits of your 24 hour membership, which costs only $8.
· You can also sign up online for $8 24 hour or $65 annual memberships.
