CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tyler Perry is a true American rags to riches story.
At one point he was homeless and now he runs a multi-million dollar entertainment empire.
In his new movie “Good Deeds,” Perry plays the lead role for the first time.
Perry also wrote, produced and directed the film and says he got the idea from his own life.
“Am I really happy? Is this what I’ve always wanted to do?”, Perry asked himself. “And for me the answer is yes.”
But in the movie, for his character Wesley Deeds, it is no.
This year alone Perry has a stage play on tour with “The Haves and the Have Nots,” his three television shows on TBS, and two movie projects scheduled to be released.
Perry told Charlotte Today reporter Dayvee Sutton that he still had another project up his sleeve and would be making a big announcement very soon.
When asked why he was so driven, Perry said “I’m doing things that no one has ever done. No one has had this kind of success across so many lanes. So being an African American in this position, I have the responsibility to keep going.”
