One of the area’s most posh social events for Spring is this Saturday in Mineral Springs. The Queens Cup Steeplechase celebrates its 18th year. Think about it as a huge lawn party where the horses are invited.
The gates open at 10am and there’s a day’s long agenda starting with the Jack Russell terrier races, then there’s a jockey walk, where patrons can take the track with the jockeys as they prepare for the race.
This year Veteran’s will be honored and Purple Heart Homes is the charity that benefits from it.
Patrons of the event can all participate in contests like hat decorating and tailgating.
Even though it’s a ‘pinkies-up’ event, organizers encourage plastic dinnerware. They are better suited for the outside event.
Then the of course the races. There are six of them on the card this year. So if you want a taste of the Kentucky Derby, but can’t make to Louisville, check out the Queens Cup Steeplechase this Saturday.
Tickets start at $45 for general admission. Visit www.queenscup.org for additional details.
