Food Lion is hosting a holiday bake-off facebook contest.  Upload your favorite recipe and photo for a chance to win a $500 gift card.   There are 4 categories :appetizers, entrees, sides and dessert.   The contest starts Wednesday, Nov. 7th and runs through November 28th

 

Shepherd’s Pie
1 ½ lb ground beef “Butchers Brand”
1 c chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
1 c frozen peas “ME”
4 t beef bouillon granules
½ t salt “ME”
½ t dried thyme
½ t pepper “ME”
1T all purpose flour “ME”
1 (14 ½ oz) diced can tomatoes “ME”
2T red wine vinegar
4 c instant mashed potatoes (follow package directions) “Food Lion Brand”

Saute onion and brown ground beef till done.  Stir in peas and next 4 ingredients. Sprinkle flour mixture over meat mixture, stirring constantly for one minute.  Stir in tomatoes and vinegar and cook till slightly thickened. Transfer mixture to lightly greased  3qt. baking dish or pan. Spoon mashed potatoes evenly over meat mixture.  Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated.  Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
