Caramel Apple Pie
An apple pie recipe that adds a twist with the caramel sauce to take the pie beyond the ordinary.
4 Cups of Granny Smith Apples
8 Tbsp unsalted butter (one stick)
2 Cups of Golden Delicious (6-7 Apples in Total)
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
¼ cup water
½ cup white sugar
½ cup packed light brown sugar
Peel, core and slice apples.
Fill pie shell with apples mounding slightly.
Sprinkle apples with cinnamon.
Prepare Caramel Sauce:
Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour and thicken. Add water, sugar and brown sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer 5-8 minutes.
Place lattice top over apples.
Pour sauce over the top of the pie pouring into the spaces between the lattice and to the edge of the pie without running over.
Bake at 425o for 15 minutes, reduce temp to 350o and continue to bake for additional 40-45 minutes.
