THANKSGIVING TABLE DÉCOR IDEAS
(All glitter projects, when dried, should be covered with hairspray…this will assist in keeping the glitter on the actual item)
Glitter candles – Tapers or Pillars
You will need a well-ventilated space, latex gloves, and various colors of very fine glitter, a large bowl or container to catch the left over glitter. You will also need spray adhesive and masking tape or painters tape. Do this outside or where there is a well-ventilated space and use gloves. Also have a large bowl to catch any extra glitter. You will also need a box or some type of background to work against so the spray adhesive doesn’t spray on anything of importance.
Use masking tape or painters table and tape around the wick of the candle. Using the spray adhesive, spray in sections the candle and then pour glitter over the area you just sprayed allowing the excess glitter to fall in the container.
You may have to do this is thirds if you are doing a pillar. Tapers usually you can do one end and the other or completely do it all at once.
Look for empty spots and re-spray and re-glitter using the glitter in the bowl. The candles need to dry for a full day. Then remove the masking tape from the wick of the candle.
Glitter Acorns
The key here is to pick the acorns off the oak trees. If not, you’ll have to search for them on the ground and find the tops that match the nut.
You will need a glue gun, glitter, bowl or container to place glitter in, wax paper, a mixture of 2/3 glue like Tacky glue and 1/3 water. Small craft paint brush. Latex gloves. Use a different deep bowl for each color of glitter you want to use.
Use the glue gun and glue the top of the acorn to the actual nut.
Mix the tacky glue together well so it is thinner and easier to use.
With the paint brush, brush just the nut part of the acorn and “bury” it in the glitter. You can either leave it there for a few minutes or take it out and place on wax paper. The only reason you may want to leave it in the glitter for a few minutes is because when you put it directly on the wax paper you often have to go back after the acorn dries and touch up the side that was on the wax paper.
Stain glass votive
Buy votive candles available at Garden Ridge or Michaels. You will need tissue paper, the glue mixture of 2/3 glue like Tacky glue and water, a craft paint brush, latex gloves, scissors.
Cut the various tissue paper in bits and pieces. Some big pieces, some small. There is no wrong way to do it. In thirds, use your paint brush and paint a third of the glass of the votive. Apply various pieces of tissue paper on top of the glue overlapping each other. Then gently using the paint brush, paint over what you just applied to set it all in place and to get any creases out. Once you have done all three sides, go back around and lightly glue the entire votive with tissue just to ensure everything is covered. Allow to dry for at least ½ day.
If any tissue went over the top of the votive, use scissors to trim so it won’t catch fire.
Glittering Anything Else for the Holidays
To glitter small pumpkins you use the same process with the glue and glitter. It will take about a day to dry.
