Black Forest Ham and Swiss Puff
 
Makes 15 servings
 
Ingredients
 
Frozen Puff Pastry                              1 box (2 sheets)
Dijon Mustard                                   4 tablespoons
Black Forest Ham                                8 to 10 slices
Swiss Cheese                                    8 to 10 slice
Egg                                             1 each
Flour                                           For dusting
 
Method of Preparation
 
1.  Gather all ingredients and equipment
2.  Thaw the puff pastry according to the package directions
3.  Preheat your oven to 400 degrees
4.  Dust your counter top with flour
5.  Roll out each piece of puff pastry to roughly 8”x14”
6.  Take one piece of puff pastry and spread the dijon mustard within one inch of border (top, bottom and sides)
7.  Place the ham over the dijon mustard again completely covering the puff pastry leaving a one inch border
8.  Place the swiss cheese over the ham again making sure to leave a one inch border
9.  With the egg, make an egg wash (whisk the egg with a little water
10. Paint the one inch border with the egg wash
11. Place the second piece of puff pastry over the bottom piece sealing the edges
12. Roll the edges up forming a crust around the entire puff pastry
13. Place the puff pastry on a piece of parchment paper and then onto a cookie sheet
14. With a sharp knife, cut a few slits into the top
15. Brush the remainder of the egg wash over the entire puff pastry
16. Place on a middle rack in the preheated oven
17. Bake until golden brown and puffy, about 20 to 25 minutes
18. Let it cool slightly before cutting
