Charlotte Shakespeare's 2012 main stage season kicks off with The Tempest May 31 – June 17 as The Green uptown transforms into the magical island where Prospero and his daughter are exiled. It’s great for everyone, even non-Shakespeare enthusiasts. Picnic under the stars as magic, monsters, romance and comedy all collide in one of Shakespeare's final plays. This year’s performances are directed by guest artist Matt Cosper.

For performances at The Green, patrons are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and may bring food and beverages (including alcohol), if desired. The festival’s popular pre-show performance series, 'Festivities', will return for a third year. Local musicians, performing artists, storytellers and poets will be entertain audiences beginning 45 minutes prior to each main stage performance. Free educational workshops will also be offered during the run of each show.

The show performances are May 31-June 2, June 6-9, 13-16, at 8:00 p.m.; June 3, 10, 17, at 6:30 p.m. Contact the Festival by visiting www.shakespearefestival.com or call 704-625-1288.
