Tequila Sunrise. One shot of premium tequila, 2 shots fresh orange juice, 2 shots real cranberry juice and a lime wedge.
Tequila will not give you a hangover unless you’re slamming shots. Look for 100% agave—the rest could have other sugar alcohols or additives that give you the hangover, not the tequila. Out of all the spirits, tequila is gentlest on blood sugar levels and may help cholesterol levels.
Grapefruit Cadillac Margarita. One shot tequila, squeeze of lime, juice from half a grapefruit, a splash of orange liqueur, top with mineral water.
If you skip the orange liqueur, this drink will almost burn calories. The citrus will cut the blood sugar load and the tequila will also not produce a hangover if you’re a sipper! The orange liqueur makes this whole drink taste like a premium $15 cadillac margarita without the margarita mix which is artificial flavorings and high fructose corn syrup which will massively put on the pounds! Spiked Lemonade. 1/4 cup frozen berries, muddled, 1 lemon juiced, and 1 tablespoon simple syrup, 1 shot vodka, top with mineral water.
The berries add color and flavor without the blood sugar spike of fruit juice. The mineral water delivers the alcohol faster, so you’ll want to be careful!
Mint Julep. 1 tablespoon simple syrup, a dozen fresh mint leaves, a shot of bourbon and Perrier.
We make our own simple syrup with a teaspoon of honey (this actually came from my own backyard bees!) and a tablespoon of warm water. This gives enough sweet without the high fructose corn syrup in purchased simple syrup or the overdose of sugar in the simple syrup you would make. The abundant fresh mint gives the drink a refreshing edge, plus mint is full of vitamin A, some C and B vitamins as well as minerals.
