What are you doing this weekend? Looking for something free to do around the Charlotte area? Here are some top picks.
UNC Charlotte Center City Community Day Check out the new UNCC building in Center City, at 320 E. 9th Street. The building itself is interesting enough to warrant a close look. It looks kind of like a Rubik’s Cube. But on Saturday from 10am to 2pm, UNCC welcomes the community with free activities, including live music, puppet shows, t-shirt making, crafts for kids, and much more.
Big Shot Saturday Your kids may not agree that this is fun, but it is a way to get them the immunizations that they need, for free. The Junior League has organized several free vaccination events, and the one this Saturday takes place at Phillip O. Barry Academy of Technology from 10am to 2pm. There will also be vision, hearing and dental assessments, education topics for children, entertainment and giveaways. Some of that sounds fun for the kids!
Sunset Jazz Festival The free portion of this festival takes place on Saturday from 2pm to 8pm at Marshall Park. Performers include The Brubakers, Buff Dillard, Reggie Sullivan, and Innertwyned.
Shalom Lake Norman The third year of this Jewish Festival at Ramsey Creek Park runs from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday. Nationally known Jewish musical groups will be performing, and there will be plenty of kids’ activities like inflatables, magic shows, and face painting.
Davidson’s Concert on the Green The last of Davidson’s summer concert series will be Sunday from 6pm to 8pm. Come out and enjoy the cooler weather, as well as music from the Davidson Symphony and Jazz Ensemble.
