MIAMI -- One Florida school district is making it easy than ever for parents to stay connected to their child's progress, using a smartphone.
Michael Slackman is a technology analyst with Miami-Dade Schools.
He's also a parent, so he realizes the cell-phone friendly alert system he manages has to be easy and convenient for parents.
With the click of a mouse, parents can sign up for automatic alerts directly to their cell phones.
You can choose to be alerted if your child's grade drops below a "C" or if he or she skips out on class.
You can also opt in for notifications about what work your child's teacher assigned.
The district is also considering adding natural disaster alerts to the system.
