Hundreds of Robert L. Patton High School students packed the gymnasium Monday in Burke County.
They were there to hear about the life of a high school student who died in the shootings at Columbine when most of them were just starting grade school.
After Rachel’s death, Rachel’s six diaries and her lifestyle became the foundation of what would later become a program to help students make positive changes through acts of kindness and compassion.
After the hour-long session many students said they now feel empowered to step in and help stop things like bullying in school.
“It made me think just that every word that we say and action that we do impacts somebody else and that we should be cautious of what we say and do,” said Kimmie Goings, a senior at Patton.
