Rosalind Wiseman says parents need to lead by example when it comes to bullying. She wrote the book Queen Bees and Wannabes, which focuses on the impact and consequences of bullying. She says sometimes things get messy.

“Queen Bees and Wannabes is based on teaching I did for a long time with both boys and girls,” Wiseman says. “Sometimes people think they’re doing things that they are justified in doing, but when you take a step back it’s really bullying,”

Bullying now has several platforms but Wiseman says some of those platforms can also be used to teach kids how to react to bullying.

“We cannot demonize technology because technology is amazing in so many different ways,” Wiseman says. “I think actually technology is the best way that parents can show their children what their values are in action. It’s not just important to teach your children what your values are about standing up for what’s right, or being kind, not accepting cruelty when you see it. But you actually have to show your kids what that’s like and what you do in that situation.”
