CONCORD, N.C. -- Something very different happened in the lunch room at a high school in Cabarrus County this week.

Students at Central Cabarrus High School were encouraged to move out of their comfort zone and not sit with their friends.

This was part of "mix-it-up-day" at the school. Instead of eating lunch with their friends students were asked to sit with others -- who had birthdays in the same month as them.

One student said it was a positive experience for him.

“It  was interesting. you didn't get to sit with the people you usually see. you got to meet new and different people,” said Fernando Alcaidi.
