CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- About 17,000 rubber ducks hit the water at the U.S. National Whitewater Center this weekend in a race to benefit Kindermourn.

The organization helps families grieving over the loss of a loved one.

Proceeds from the annual Hope Floats Duke Race benefit mothers like Sandy Coyer, who lost her daughter 12 years ago.

"I'm able to sit here today and talk to you because of the help and the support we received and the hope that we were given," Coyer said.

The race raised more than $100,000 for Kindermourn.
