CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Fans of The Voice will remember season three winner, Cassadee Pope, who teamed with Blake Shelton to win the singing contest.
She's stopped in Charlotte for a benefit concert Wednesday. But first -- she says -- she had to stop at the NASCAR Hall of Fame because it’s a sport she grew up watching.
She likes competing.
“I know you guys are big burly men. Just don’t let me down,” the petite musician said to some Boy Scouts she grabbed to help her with the pit crew challenge at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
In town to perform a benefit concert, Pope says she wanted to see the Hall of Fame because she’s a big fan.
“So this is all kind of throwback for me. I grew up around it and it’s really special,” Pope says. “I got to do the whole pit stop experience, which is really hectic and scary.”
The race simulator was next. It's a wild ride, kind of like the one she's been on since teaming with country superstar Blake Shelton.
“It’s all happening fast and I’m really happy I took my time with it,” she said.
She just released her first single, is touring with Rascal Flatts and Blake is still coaching her.
“He gave me great advice on how to stay the course, not give up.”
Easy she says, when you're doing what you love.
“Living my dream is really crazy. I’m doing exactly what I love for a living. Not a lot of people get to do that. I knew I wanted to be a singer since I was 4 years old and the fact that I get to do this is crazy.”
