CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Grammy award-winning writer and recording artist Gordon Chambers has worked with more than 75 stars in the music industry, including the late Whitney Houston.

Chambers is in Charlotte to perform at the Sunset Club, with part of the proceeds going to benefit Samaritan's Feet. Samaritan's Feet provides shoes to children around the world who would normally go without them.

"She is my New Jersey home girl," said Chambers, who won a Grammy for writing "Giving You the Best That I Got" for R&B singer Anita Baker.

Chambers also produced tracks on Houston's "Just Whitney" album.

"She was a great person, I truly loved her," he added.

Chambers credits Houston with playing a big part in his decision to move from behind the scenes to in front of the mic.  He said she was a good person and has been making sure to point that out in all his radio and TV interviews.

"We were in the studio one day and I was trying to get her to hit a note up here," he said during an interview Wednesday at WGIV Radio in Pineville. "I just want to honor her."

Chambers’ concert is Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Sunset Club on South Boulevard.
