NEW YORK (AP) — A New York man has been arrested on charges he offered to sell a woman's 2-month-old baby online for $100.
Staten Island prosecutors said Monday that Paul Marquez is charged with endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
Authorities say Marquez had been out with the baby's mother a few times but felt she wasn't paying him enough attention. They say he says he wanted to get back at her so he posted the ads with photos of her daughter on Craigslist.
Prosecutors say Marquez gave the mother's phone number to a person who answered the ad, and the mother notified police after that person called her. Investigators are looking into the request, saying it may have been out of concern and not an illegal attempt to purchase a child.
