NEW YORK – NBC Charlotte was granted rare behind-the-scenes access to filming at "The Celebrity Apprentice" as the hit TV show started shooting episodes of its current 14th season.
The show stars Donald Trump and a long list of celebrities competing in weekly business-related challenges for the chance to win $250,000 for the favorite charity.
"You never know how people are going to react when you put people together with one another. And this season I'd say it's pretty explosive," said Ivanka Trump, who appears alongside her brother Donald Trump, Jr as advisors to their father.
This season's cast includes TV host Geraldo Rivera, actor Ian Ziering, TV host Leeza Gibbons, football player Terrell Owens, and actress Vivica A. Fox, among several others. Each episode, one apprentice is fired.
Donald Trump said it's too early to predict a winner.
"I'm the one who makes the decision, so I can't get into it," he said.
But after years of hosting the show, he's noticed trends in the casts. He said certain types of celebrities tend to excel while others struggle.
"We find that athletes often times don't do as well. It's amazing. They're very strong physically. Much superior physically. But they seem to wilt. Let's see if that happens this season."
Built around the Trump name, "Celebrity Apprentice" allows family members to spend even more quality time together. Outside the show, they all have other joint ventures.
"I get to work with my big brother. We only fight occasionally," Ivanka joked.
The Trump family has spent time in the Charlotte area in recent years. They say they come to town to visit the "Trump National" Golf Course, recently established in Mooresville.
"We visit all the time, we love it. Actually Eric, our younger brother who's on the show as well, he's the one overseeing that project. So he's down there on a very regular basis," said Ivanka.
"We get to go, and have fun. He gets to go and work. So it's a good dynamic, we like it that way," Trump Jr., added.
The reality series airs Mondays at 8 p.m., on NBC Charlotte.
