CHARLOTTE, N.C. --  A accident involving two trucks on Interstate 85 southbound left one person dead and snarled traffic Monday morning, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened a little after 5 a.m. on I-85 near the Sam Wilson Road exit, at the truck weigh station.

The Highway Patrol said Larry James Grier, 59, was killed after his Budget Rental truck slammed into the back of a broken down tractor-trailer.

The accident shut down all southbound lanes at Sam Wilson Road at exit 29 for more than two hours after the wreck.

The Highway Patrol has since re-opened all southbound lanes.
