CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was a happy early morning reunion for Providence High School students and their parents who'd been waiting anxiously to welcome them home after a frightening bus crash.

Nine students and their bus driver were hurt in a crash as they returned from a trip to Disney World Sunday.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokeswoman confirmed four buses carrying the students were northbound on I-95 when one of the buses crashed near Brunswick, Georgia.

Georgia State Troopers said one of the buses hit a car and then hit another bus.  The chain-reaction crash involved three buses and three cars altogether, said troopers.

The driver of the bus was airlifted to a hospital in Savannah.  Three students were also taken to a hospital for minor injuries, and six more were treated at the scene.

The group of approximately 150 students and their chaperones waited at a fire department, then a community center, for additional buses to come get them and bring them home to Charlotte, said the parent.

Georgia State Troopers are still investigating what may have caused the bus driver to crash into the car in front of him.
The group returned to Charlotte early Monday morning getting tight hugs from parents, siblings and friends.

Many students were tired and ready to just go home.   All the students are okay and even the injured were able to finally make it home.

“She probably will not go on another field trip,” said parent Daniel Brown about his daughter.  “Last year I didn’t want her to go on a field trip because of safety concerns and this year I let her go and it’s a bother.  It’s a worry for us parents.”
