CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte firefighters had to rescue a woman from her bedroom after a car crashed through a home on Tuckaseegee Road  Monday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a car crashed through a home in the 5400 block of Tuckaseegee Road near the intersection of Mulberry Church Road.

The driver of the car was taken by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center, but the mother and daughter in the house were not hurt, according to police.

Firefighters had to pry a bedroom door open for one of the women to escape after her bed was pushed across the room by the car.

Police said the driver of the car is a police contact that was meeting officers at the Quality Inn and Suites on Queen City Road, but got spooked.  As the driver took off he hit a police car before speeding down Tuckaseegee Road and crashing into the home.

Police briefly closed Tuckaseegee Road, but reopened it around 6:30 a.m.

Police said the two women were displaced because the structure of the home was severely damaged.
